Manolo Blahnik vertelt dat hij al vaak is uitgenodigd door de organisatoren van fashion week, maar dat het nooit goed voelde, tot nu: "I owed it to the organisers, I had been invited to take part so many times but it never felt right. London Fashion Week has changed so much recently though; it is so professional now and I really think it is one of the most exciting in the world. Also, everything is becoming so transparent with all this technology, with the blogs and tweets, and I wanted to get more in touch with normal people."
Omdat de schoenenguru altijd een filmliefhebber is geweest, koos hij ervoor om zijn spring/summer 2014 collectie via een korte film, geïnspireerd op de jaren 20, te onthullen. "I wanted it to have that feeling of elegance and sophistication that that period gave to the world," legt Blahnik uit. "It's about jealousy, but mainly the cultural richness that came with that time. Everyone was extreme, which I love." Bekijk hieronder de vijf minuten durende film, geregisseerd door Michael Roberts.
